Without registration, without standard medical facilities and with the help of only untrained staff, these nursing homes are seriously playing with the health and lives of the general public.
If we look from the sub-divisional headquarters to the rural areas, a new clinic or nursing home is being inaugurated every month. The surprising thing is that the investigation by the concerned department has become a mere formality.
According to the information, last month also more than 50 clinics and nursing homes of Rosra Nagar and block area were inspected. But till now the action is limited. According to local people, there are many nursing homes which are neither registered with the health department nor are qualified doctors available there.
Patients are being treated by relying on quacks and compounders. A huge amount is collected by admitting serious patients, but when their condition worsens, they are hurriedly referred.
Sources say that the investigations conducted from time to time by the Health Department prove to be merely on paper. Neither concrete action is taken against illegal nursing homes nor are they sealed. Most of the flaws are hidden because the operators get advance information about the arrival of the investigation team.
Many a times in the area, there has been discussion of death of patients due to negligence in treatment, but the matter is suppressed either by convincing the family members or under pressure. Poor and rural patients turn to these nursing homes in the hope of better treatment and become victims of exploitation. Social workers and conscious citizens have demanded strict action from the department and administration against illegal nursing homes.
According to people, unless there is a regular and fair investigation and strict punishment is not given to the culprits, this game of playing with human lives will continue like this. Describing the playing with human life as a serious matter, the people of Rosra have demanded the health department and the district administration to take this matter seriously.
