Earthquake tremors in Kolkata

Digital Desk, New Delhi. Strong earthquake tremors have been felt in Kolkata. The earthquake was so strong that people came out of their homes and offices and came onto the streets.

The intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 5.0 on the Richter scale. This earthquake occurred today, Friday, February 27, at around 1:22 pm. The epicenter of this earthquake was 3 kilometers inside Bangladesh near the India-Bangladesh border.

When the earthquake struck Kolkata, Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar was addressing a meeting. Sukant Majumdar felt the tremors of the earthquake during his address.

Earthquake also occurred in Sikkim

Strong earthquake tremors were also felt in Sikkim early today at 4.10 am. The intensity of this earthquake was measured at 3.7 on the Richter scale.

Cracks were reported on the walls of two schools in West Sikkim due to the earthquake. Incidents like ceiling collapse of Eklavya Model Residential School and Gerethang Junior High School of Tashiding were also reported.

According to preliminary information, there is no news of any loss of life or property. The situation is being monitored by the administration.

It is noteworthy that even a day before, mild earthquake tremors were felt in the state. Panic has spread among the people due to the tremors for the second consecutive day, but at present the situation is said to be normal.
