Administration's advice: Do not respond to suspicious WhatsApp messages or forward them.
Jagran correspondent, Udhampur. Minga Sherpa had just taken charge as DC Udhampur yesterday when cyber thugs started a conspiracy to target people by misusing his photograph. After cases of fake messages being sent using DC's photo on social media and WhatsApp, the administration has immediately issued an alert and appealed to the citizens to remain alert.
In the public advisory issued by the District Administration Udhampur, it has been said that some vicious elements are trying to mislead and cheat people by using the picture of DC Udhampur. The purpose of such messages may be to obtain money or personal information from people.
Appeal to citizens to remain alert
The administration has clearly said that neither respond to any suspicious WhatsApp message nor forward it. Confirm any information only through official government channels. Also, completely avoid sharing your personal or banking related information with any unknown person.
It has also been said in the advisory that if anyone receives such a suspicious message, they should immediately inform the police or cyber cell and block the concerned number, so that other people do not become victims of fraud.
The administration has appealed to the citizens to contact the official helpline numbers 01992-272727 and 01992-272728 for any kind of doubt or information. Also, while giving the message of be alert, stay safe, the administration has asked people to be aware against cyber fraud.
