State Bureau, New Delhi. Even on Holi, concrete efforts have not been made to stop liquor smuggling. The system is being affected due to shortage of staff. In such a situation, there is a possibility of smuggling of illegal liquor in Delhi.

However, the department claims that teams of Excise Department as well as Delhi Police have been deployed at all the borders.

More danger in Delhi

After Diwali and New Year, Holi is such an occasion when there is a possibility of supply of illegal liquor on a large scale in Delhi. Efforts are also made by the Excise Department to stop this. Due to it being cheaper in other states, the risk of liquor smuggling is higher in Delhi.

But when the department neither has adequate staff nor resources, then how illegal liquor will be banned is a matter to be understood. If we look at the last few years, this action is decreasing compared to previous years.

The main reason for this is believed to be the huge shortage of staff in the enforcement wing of the department. However, the Excise Department claims that the department is completely working to stop liquor smuggling and teams have been deployed in potential smuggling areas including the Delhi border.

43 out of 60 posts vacant

Talking about the situation of the department, out of total 60 sanctioned posts in the vigilance wing of the department, 43 are lying vacant and only 17 posts are filled. This wing has the responsibility of stopping illegal liquor activities.

After the BJP government came to power in Delhi, Holi is the fourth time when adequate staff and resources have not been available to stop liquor smuggling.
