Severe Cold Wreaks Havoc In Pahalgam And Gulmarg, Kashmir's Dal Lake Turns Into Ice; The Mercury Dropped To -5.1 Degrees

Jagran Correspondent, Srinagar l Winter has taken hold in the valley between Chille Kalan. The banks of many other reservoirs of Kashmir including the world famous Dal Lake in Srinagar have frozen. Life is affected due to drastic drop in night temperature. The coldest night of the season passed in Srinagar with minus 5.1 degree mercury.

Fog continues in the plains of Jammu. According to Meteorological Center Srinagar, there may be snowfall in the mountainous areas of Kashmir between 16-17, 20 and 22-23 January. There will be fog in Jammu and many other plain areas for the next five days. In many districts of the valley the day temperature is also below ten degrees.

The day temperature was recorded at 11.1 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, 7.2 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam and 2.6 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg. Gulmarg was the coldest in the state. The morning started with fog in Jammu. But the weather cleared in the afternoon. But the feeling of cold winds continued. The maximum temperature recorded here was 13.5 degrees and the minimum temperature was 7.1 degrees.

Traffic closed on Daksum-Sinthan road

Due to snow accumulation in South Kashmir on Thursday, vehicular movement was stopped on the Daksum-Sinthan road. There is a possibility of accidents due to slipping on the road. According to National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, this decision was taken in the interest of public safety.
