Samvad Sutra, Saadabad (Hathras). For the first time, organized export of potatoes to Sri Lanka has started from Kursanda in Sadabad region, which is known for potato production.
Chacha Chaudhary Trading Company of the area filled two Anna loading trucks with selected and graded potatoes and sent them to Mumbai Port, from where the consignment will be sent to Sri Lanka by sea route through containers.
Special quality potatoes have been selected for export. They are sorted on the basis of size and quality and put into standard packaging to meet the requirements of the international market.
The company procured directly from the farmers, due to which the role of middlemen was reduced and the farmers could get comparatively better prices.
Local farmer Suraj Chaudhary said that the prices of potatoes were continuously falling for some time, due to which it had become difficult to find the cost. Since the start of exports, there has been an increase in purchasing and there are signs of improvement in prices.
Welcoming this initiative, MLA Pradeep Chaudhary said that the hard work of the farmers of the area is now reaching the global market, which is a matter of pride.
