Prem Shankar Mishra, Muzaffarpur. Lease Violation Bihar: The government has adopted a strict stance regarding cases of Khas Mahal land being used for commercial or other purposes in violation of lease terms in the state. In all such cases, if the terms of the lease are found to be violated, the settlement of the concerned land will be cancelled.

In this regard, Dr. Mahendra Pal, Additional Secretary, Revenue and Land Reforms Department, has issued a letter to the collectors of 12 districts of the state. It has been instructed in the letter that those lands of Khasmahal should be identified, whose purpose after settlement is being changed for commercial or other use. Detailed reports have been sought from all the districts by February 15.

The districts from where reports have been called include Patna, Rohtas, Buxar, Bhojpur, Munger, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, West Champaran and Muzaffarpur.

Action intensified after instructions from Deputy Chief Minister

Additional Secretary has mentioned in his letter that this action has been intensified after the recent review meeting held by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. Clear instructions were given in the meeting that the special lands which are being used for purposes other than those prescribed in the lease, should be identified immediately. If the land is being used for commercial or other illegal purposes, a proposal to cancel its settlement should be sent to the department.

Land has been given to four establishments

Khasmahal land has been given on lease to four establishments in Muzaffarpur district. Among these, maximum land is allotted to MSKB College and School. Apart from this, prime land has also been given to Government Bus Stand at Imlichatti, Indian Red Cross Society and LK Bose.

The lease renewal of all these establishments has not been done yet. Meanwhile, the process of investigation is being started regarding usage beyond the terms of the lease. According to the information, commercial activities are being conducted by constructing shops on the land of MSKB College located at Banaras Bank Chowk, whereas the land was given for the purpose of education. A report has already been sought by the government in this matter. Now after the decision to cancel the settlement, the problems of the concerned establishments may increase.
