Sports Desk, New Delhi. T20 World Cup 2026 may have started from 7th February, but fans are waiting for the match between India and Pakistan to be held in Colombo on 15th February. However, the Pakistani government had made it clear in a post that it will play the World Cup but will boycott the match against India.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to consult the Sri Lankan government to reconsider the boycott of the match against India. The India-Pakistan match is the biggest commercially for the ICC and the broadcasters. Due to this, Sri Lanka Cricket has sent an email to PCB saying that Sri Lanka will suffer financial loss due to this important match not being held on 15th February.
Sri Lankan board wrote letter
According to the report, "Pakistan has always had close and friendly relations with Sri Lanka at the government and cricket level. Therefore, the letter from the Sri Lankan Board cannot be ignored. Sri Lankan Board President Shammi Silva has directly contacted Mohsin Naqvi and reminded him that Sri Lanka needs Pakistan's help at this time. Without the matches between Pakistan and India, the Sri Lankan Board will lose additional income from viewership, hotel and other ticket sales etc."
Naqvi will talk to the government
According to sources, Naqvi has assured Sri Lanka Board Chairman Shammi Silva that he will consult the government and respond to him. He said that the media reports that Pakistan has also rejected Sri Lanka's request are wrong.
"PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is not in the country since yesterday and is expected to return today. He will bring to the notice of the Prime Minister the email sent regarding ending the boycott of the match against India and then a decision on the matter will be taken by Monday," the source said.
