Digital Desk, New Delhi. The US on Friday announced new sanctions to block Iran's oil exports, including targeting 14 ships. This announcement was made shortly after the enemies concluded a day of indirect talks in Oman.
High-level nuclear talks between the US and Iran began in Oman on Friday amid fears of conflict. Its purpose is to resolve differences regarding Tehran's nuclear program.
However, the controversy over the agenda of the talks being mediated by Oman has increased the possibility of diplomatic efforts being derailed. An Iranian official said that the talks have not officially started.
However, Iran's demands have been conveyed to America through Oman. Indirect talks will likely begin after a meeting between the US chief negotiator and Oman's foreign minister. Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that both sides have shown readiness to resume diplomatic efforts on Tehran's nuclear dispute.
Washington also wants Iran's ballistic missile programme, its support of armed groups in the region and its behavior towards its own people to be included on the agenda for talks. While Iranian officials have said that Iran will not discuss its missiles and wants recognition of its right to enrich uranium.
An Iranian source said that the presence of US Central Command or regional military officials could jeopardize the process of indirect nuclear talks, which are taking place between Iran and the US in Oman. Iran has said it wants talks between its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy for Middle East Steve Witcalf only on the nuclear issue.
Tension has increased between the two countries
These talks are taking place at a time when tensions with the US have increased following the Iranian government's violent crackdown on anti-government protests across the country last month and there is a possibility of a regional war.
US military deployment in the region increased and several warships were dispatched. US President Donald Trump recently warned that if no agreement is reached, US warships are headed towards Iran and bad things will happen.
Iran warned against adventurism According to ANI, the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Friday reiterated its preparedness to protect sovereignty and security against any unreasonable demands or adventurism. This statement came at a time when America and Iran are holding nuclear talks in Muscat city of Oman. The Iranian delegation is led by Abbas Araghchi.
