Digital Desk, New Delhi. Bangladesh has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country's next Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. Along with this, other regional leaders will also be called on February 16.
The invitation from Dhaka was extended to the Indian side late Saturday night after Rahman's Bangladesh Nationalist Party indicated that regional leaders would be invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Let us tell you that the chances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi going to Dhaka are less because he is going to hold a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai on 17 February. Macron is coming to India next week to participate in the AI Impact Summit.
Any senior leader from India may participate
According to the information, a senior leader from the Indian side, perhaps the Vice President or the Foreign Minister, may attend the swearing-in ceremony of Tariq Rehman. The Indian side also does not want to be seen as rushing into a rapprochement with the Bangladeshi side, although repairing the deteriorating relations remains a priority.
Bangladesh is considering inviting leaders of SAARC countries
It is reported that the idea of inviting most of the SAARC leaders to Rahman's swearing-in ceremony is underway, a move initiated by Rahman's father, former President Ziaur Rahman. Apart from this, there is also a plan to invite heads of state or government of some other friendly countries like China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
