Samvad Sutra, Gadkha (Saran). The increasing terror of wild animals in Gadkha block area has become a serious crisis for the farmers. Herds of wild boars, gophers and monkeys are entering the fields and causing massive damage to the crops of wheat, potatoes, pulses and oilseeds.
The crops prepared after hard work and cost are being destroyed within a few hours, due to which the financial back of the farmers is breaking.
Damage to potato and pulse crops
Farmers say that wild pigs enter the fields at night and trample the entire crop, while horse pigs graze the crops during the day. Monkey groups are also damaging potato and pulse crops.
Many farmers are forced to guard their fields all night, yet they are unable to get rid of the terror of animals. This problem is continuously increasing in rural areas.
Crop failure is common in every season.
Farmers Ravindra Singh, Ajay Singh, Bachha Singh, Arun Rai say that earlier there used to be losses only occasionally, but now it has become common for crops to be ruined in every season. This is not only affecting the income of the farmers, but their confidence in farming is also beginning to waver.
Farmers have demanded the administration and government to impose effective control on wild animals. He says that if concrete steps are not taken soon, farming will become more difficult in the future.
Farmers have raised demands for compensation, installation of solar fencing around the fields and ensuring active role of the forest department. Local farmers say that farming is their main means of livelihood.
In such a situation, if there is no protection from wild animals, farmers will be in deep trouble. It is expected from the government that it will provide relief to the farmers by paying immediate attention to this serious problem.
