Nitin Kalia, Amritsar. There was a sensation in Khaparkhedi village located in Chheharta area of Amritsar when the bride ran away from home with her alleged lover a day before the wedding. The wedding procession was to take place on 15 February and the Shagun rituals were to take place on 14 February, but just before Shagun, the news of the girl's disappearance left both the families in shock.
According to the information, 31-year-old Harpreet Singh, resident of Derma Wala Bazaar, Sultan Wind Road, was engaged to Kirandeep Kaur eight months ago. The marriage was fixed for February 15 with the consent of both the families. Tents, catering and other preparations were going on in full swing at home.
Harpreet Singh alleged that at around 5 am on February 14, the girl's family received a call that their daughter had gone missing from home. He said that a day earlier some young man had called him and told him that he and Kirandeep were in a love affair and they wanted to get married. The young man had also warned of breaking the relationship.
Harpreet says that he did not take that call seriously, but now he suspects that the girl's family already knew everything and they kept postponing the wedding date.
