Vinod's 31-year-old wife Shikha, who was working in the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project, was pregnant. When Shikha had labor pains on Wednesday, shopkeeper Shishpal Bhandari, who lives in the neighborhood, took her to the Community Health Center, Bagi.
According to Sheeshpal, a call was made to 108 in this regard at 7 pm on Wednesday itself. Shikha was somehow taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, till then she was conscious. As soon as she reached there, her condition started deteriorating and she started fainting.
Accusing the hospital administration of insensitivity, Shishpal said that the doctors asked to immediately refer Shikha to Srinagar. When asked for the ambulance parked in the hospital, the hospital administration said that there was no driver and the vehicle was also broken.
Shishpal himself offered to drive the vehicle as he himself deals with vehicles. On this, the hospital administration postponed it by making the excuse that the steering of the ambulance was not working.
Finally, after two hours, 108 service reached at 9 pm, but Shikha died on the way to Srinagar. Due to which the fetus also died.
On the other hand, Dr. Anjana Gupta, Medical Officer in-charge of the hospital, says that the woman was 32 weeks pregnant and due to the fall, she was bleeding heavily. According to doctors, efforts were made to stabilize the woman's condition in the hospital. 108 were also informed from their side.
At the same time, the driver of the hospital ambulance had taken leave at 3 o'clock in the afternoon to see his ailing father, due to which the government vehicle could not be used. However, the delay in 108 service and the failure of the hospital's backup system have caused lifelong pain to the family.
