Wheel of British Airways plane fell off as soon as it took off from Las Vegas (Photo- Video Grab)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. A scary video going viral on social media shows one of the main wheels of London-bound British Airways flight BA274 falling off just seconds after takeoff from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The incident occurred around 8:45-9:10 pm local time on Monday night (January 26, 2026), when the Airbus A350-1000 aircraft was taking off from the runway.
Flightradar24's automated live stream cameras captured the entire dramatic moment. The video clearly shows that during takeoff, sparks started coming from the right main landing gear. As the aircraft gained altitude and the landing gear began to retract, the rear outer wheel of the right main landing gear separated and fell down. The wheel fell on the runway, but fortunately there was no damage to any person, vehicle or property.
The surprising thing is that despite the incident the pilots continued flying. The plane completed a trans-Atlantic journey of about 9 hours and landed safely at London Heathrow Airport. While descending, the tower controller at Heathrow noticed remotely that a wheel of the right main gear was missing. Emergency services were on standby, but the aircraft reached Terminal 5 without assistance.
A British Airways spokesperson said that safety is the basis of everything we do. We are fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Harry Reid International Airport confirmed that the fallen tire had been recovered from the airfield. There are no reports of injuries or property damage. The US Federal Aviation Administration and other investigative agencies are investigating the incident.
The Airbus A350-1000 has two units of main landing gear, each with 6 wheels (total 12 main wheels) and 2 wheels in the nose gear. In this incident, the rear outer wheel of the right gear got separated, whose weight is said to be around 200-250 kg.
Last night, while departing Las Vegas, British Airways flight BA274 lost one of its main landing gear wheels. The separation of the right, rear wheel from the A350-1000 was captured on our automated live stream at the airport. The flight continued for a safe landing in London. pic.twitter.com/kp2xlJYvwq
