A continuous raid campaign is being conducted against those who use electricity illegally by bypassing smart meters. In the same sequence, a case of meter bypass was detected by raiding a welding shop in Belbanwa area on Friday.
During investigation, the team led by junior engineer Archana Kumari found that electricity was being taken directly from the line for commercial use by bypassing the smart meter installed in the shop. Considering this as a serious violation of the Electricity Act, the department directed the shop operator Mohd. A fine of Rs 72 thousand 335 was imposed on Dawood. Also, an application has been given to register an FIR in the city police station.
Case exposed in Shri Krishna Nagar also
During the raid, a case of using electricity by bypassing the meter also came to light in Shri Krishna Nagar locality. Illegal connection was caught at Nirmala Kumari's residence here. In this case too, the department has started the process of registering an FIR and imposing financial penalty.
Ten cases registered in the current month
According to departmental officials, FIRs have been lodged in about ten cases of meter bypass so far this month in Motihari urban area. The action has created a stir among those who steal electricity.
Engineer Archana Kumari said that electricity theft causes financial loss to the department and also affects the electricity supply system. He has appealed to the consumers to use electricity only through valid connections. Otherwise, if caught, legal action will be taken along with financial penalty.
