State Bureau, Patna. Bihar Politics: RJD had recommended the name of its MLA and former MP Shahabuddin's son Osama Shahab in the hope of getting more committees of Bihar Assembly, but due to less number of MLAs, he got only one Public Accounts Committee.
Brother Virendra was made its chairman. He was the chairman of this committee earlier also. If RJD had got more than one committee, Osama Shahab would have been its chairman. Osama's name is at second place in the list sent by RJD.
RJD had recommended four names
Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar on Saturday had ordered the formation of 19 committees of the House. Notification was also issued on the same day. Normally, formation of committees is the prerogative of the Speaker, but, in practice, he appoints only those whose names are recommended by the concerned party as chairpersons or members of the committees.
In exceptions, sometimes the Speaker rejects the recommendation of any party. Kumar Sarvjeet, chief whip of the main opposition party RJD, had recommended a total of four names for the post of chairman of the assembly committees.
The first name of Bhai Virendra was for the Public Accounts Committee. The second name in the list was that of Osama Shahab. His name was recommended for the post of Chairman of the Minority Welfare Committee.
Former minister Alok Mehta's name was also there
The third name was that of RJD's third MLA Alok Kumar Mehta. He was recommended for the Chairmanship of Internal Resources and Central Assistance Committee.
The name of Satanand Sambudh alias Lalan Yadav was recommended for the post of Chairman of the Request Committee. RJD recommended the names of its MLAs on these committees because it had got the chairmanship of four committees in the 17th Assembly.
Till now RJD was a big party. While talking to Dainik Jagran, Kumar Sarvjeet said that the issue of not making Osama the Chairman is being blown up without any reason.
The number of members of our party is less in the present assembly. Therefore fewer committees were found in the Assembly. Although we expected more than one committee.
