Rain and hailstorm in Punjab, electricity remained shut for hours in many districts.

Jagran correspondent, Ludhiana. There was a major change in the weather in many states of North India including Punjab, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Snowfall affected the hilly areas. Rain disrupted life in Punjab and Delhi-NCR. Heavy rainfall occurred in many districts of Punjab.

Hailstorm has also occurred in Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Muktsar. There was waterlogging in Jalandhar due to rain for about 15 hours. Pathankot recorded the highest rainfall of 59.8 mm. The temperature also dropped by 11 degrees. Electricity remained cut off for 10 to 15 hours in many cities due to falling of trees due to strong winds.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for rain on Saturday. ITI student Bhavesh died due to electrocution in a pole in Nabha, Patiala. In village Tibbar of Gurdaspur, a shed collapsed due to lightning, due to which about eight thousand chicks died after getting buried under the debris.

The first snowfall of the winter season occurred in Shimla and Manali cities of Himachal. There was about one foot of snow there. There was snowfall in Dalhousie also. Tourists who arrived from many states including Punjab kept having fun with the snow. There was snowfall on Maa Vaishno Devi Bhavan also. Flights were canceled due to snowfall at Srinagar airport. The Meteorological Department has also issued an avalanche warning.

The Agriculture Department has described this rain as beneficial for wheat cultivation. Agricultural experts say that if the rains continue like this, then this rain can be harmful for the potato crop due to standing water in the fields.
