Talks on trade deal between India and America have been going on for the last several months.
Washington. The internal tussle in American politics regarding the stuck bilateral trade agreement with India (India-US Trade Deal) has come to the fore. Influential Senator Ted Cruz of President Donald Trump's Republican Party has blamed the top leadership of the White House for this impasse. Cruz has alleged that White House advisor Peter Navarro, Vice President JD Vance and President Trump himself are not allowing the trade deal with India to move forward.
According to sources, in private meetings with donors, Cruz told that he is constantly battling with the White House over the trade deal with India. When a donor asked who in the administration was screwing up the deal, Cruz directly named Navarro, Vance and Trump.
In a 10-minute audio clip, Cruz is heard saying that Trump himself sometimes "hits the road." However, the authenticity of this audio has not been confirmed and it is being said that this recording could be made in mid-2025. Republican Senator Ted Cruz from Texas is being considered a possible contender for the 2028 presidential election. He has previously criticized Trump's tariff policy.
Cruz says that excessive tariffs could cause serious damage to the American economy and could even lead to a situation like impeachment against the President. Cruz also claimed that Trump had launched an aggressive tariff policy in April 2025, on which he and some other senators had negotiated at length with the President. According to Cruz, the issue lasted until midnight with Trump and an attempt was made to convince him that the tariffs would "make everything a mess."
Why was Trump angry?
During that time, Trump was reportedly angry and was lashing out at the senators. It is noteworthy that the 50 percent tariff imposed by America on Indian products has significantly strained India-US relations. Of this, 25 percent tariff is punitive, which is imposed due to India buying oil from Russia. Several rounds of talks have taken place between the two countries to finalize a trade deal, but a broad consensus has not been reached due to India's refusal to open up its agriculture and dairy sectors to American companies.

Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Howard Lutnick had recently claimed that the trade deal is stuck because direct talks are not taking place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump. Trump himself has admitted that Prime Minister Modi is unhappy with him because of the tariffs imposed on buying oil from Russia and had indicated that the tariffs may be increased further in the future. This statement has come at a time when both the countries are trying to negotiate a trade agreement.
