Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Delhi High Court has made an important comment while granting bail to the accused in the case of instigating suicide by forcing him to change religion. A bench of Justice Manoj Jain said, "Breakup of a love relationship does not amount to the offense of abetment of suicide." Accepting the appeal of the appellant Noor Mohammad, the bench said, "Nowadays, broken relationships and heartbreaks have become common, but mere breaking of the relationship cannot in itself be a matter of provocation."
condition of changing religion
Actually, a 27-year-old woman had committed suicide by hanging herself in October 2025. Her father later lodged a complaint with the police, accusing Noor Mohammad of inciting him to commit suicide by making her conversion as a condition for marriage. The accused was arrested on the complaint of his father and he had filed a petition demanding bail.
The appellant argued that he had been in a relationship with the woman for eight years and that they had prepared to get married. However, the woman's family opposed the relationship due to their different religions and they separated thereafter.
The woman did not leave any suicide note
The court took on record that the woman had not left any suicide note blaming the appellant or giving any reason for taking such a drastic step. The court said that there is no dying declaration to show what was going on in the mind of the deceased when she took such a drastic step.
Sad to see him marrying another woman
The Court observed that during their eight-year relationship, the woman did not make any complaint against the accused. The court also said that the statements of his friends showed how sad the woman was to see the appellant marrying another woman. The court said that clearly, this appears to be a case of a broken relationship and there is a possibility that the deceased may have decided to kill herself after coming to know that the appellant had married someone else.
order to release on bail
The court ordered the release of the accused on bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and one surety of like amount. Also said that the accused will not contact the victim's family member nor try to influence them.
