Jagran correspondent, Pilibhit. Arshi Khatoon, wife of peon Ilham Shamsi, was arrested on Thursday for embezzlement of crores of rupees. Ilham kept sending money to his wife's account in the District School Inspector's office with the help of fake documents. An FIR was registered against both of them under sections like forgery, embezzlement of government funds, fraud etc. Now the main accused Ilham is being searched.
Ilham Shamsi, a peon of Janata Inter College, Bisalpur, was attached to the District School Inspector's office eight years ago. Clerical work started being done instead of the original work. He got his wife Arshi Khatun's savings account opened in Bank of Baroda in June 2024. After this, with the connivance of the officials, wife Arshi was made the beneficiary of the salary item.
Rs 1.01 crore was transferred from the treasury to Arshi's account 98 times from September 2024 to December 2025. When the bank branch manager became suspicious after seeing more than Rs 1 lakh coming into the savings account every month, he sent a letter to the administrative authorities. After this, it became clear in the investigation that Ilham used to get fake salary bills passed by the then District School Inspector Rajeev Kumar Mishra.
After this, the data entry operator used to transfer the government money from Vimal's ID. Later, Rs 36.41 lakh was withdrawn from that account through UPI, the remaining amount has been frozen. DM Gyanendra Singh has already set up an inquiry into this matter. Initially in the investigation, the nexus of the then District School Inspector Rajiv Kumar Singh and data operator Vimal was considered.
The role of Accounts Officer and Treasury Officer Suresh Kumar Yadav is also being said to be suspicious. A departmental inquiry is being conducted against all of them. Last week Ilham was suspended and an FIR was registered against him and his wife. Names of District School Inspector Office and Treasury employees can also be added in the discussion.
Information about this matter has also been sent to the government. SP Sukirti Madhav said that Arshi, named in the FIR, has been arrested on Thursday morning. He is being interrogated on some points. Teams are engaged in search of Ilham, the main accused in this case.
