Demonstration of Old Delhi traders against encroachment.
Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Shopkeepers took out a protest march in Sadar Bazaar against the encroachment of street vendors and other problems in the wholesale markets of Old Delhi. In which officials and traders of various trade organizations of Sadar Bazaar as well as business representatives of other markets including Chandni Chowk, Bhagirath Palace, Chawri Bazaar, Khari Baoli, Mori Gate participated.
This protest march started from Barauti Chowk and passed through Rui Mandi, Teliwada, Qutub Road and Main Market and ended back at Bara Tooti Chowk. During the entire march, traders were holding banners and placards with slogans like 'We pay taxes, follow the law, then why are there illegal tracks?', 'Remove the tracks, save business, save Delhi' etc.
Leading the protest march, Delhi Trade Federation President Devraj Baweja said that traders have been struggling with the problem of encroachment by illegal street vendors for years. The worrying situation is that the nexus between the MCD, Delhi Police as well as the public representatives is such that even the orders of the Supreme Court and the High Court are proving ineffective.
Therefore, traders have had to take to the streets to save their business and market. Delhi Electrical Traders Association President Ajay Sharma said that the situation in the markets is becoming dangerous due to encroachment. It is disappearing from footpaths to roads. This is a serious security crisis.
After the Red Fort blast, a campaign was claimed to remove encroachment. But the situation is still worse. Federation of Sadar Bazaar Traders Association (Festa) President Rakesh Yadav said that the situation in Sadar Bazaar is frightening. Due to encroachment of street vendors, incidents like pick-pocketing, molestation and theft of goods keep happening. Chawdi Bazaar head Baldev Gupta said that the problem of traffic jam and air pollution is becoming serious due to encroachment.
President of Delhi Hindustani Mercantile Association (DHMA) Shri Bhagwan Bansal said that the business organizations of the markets of Old Delhi have started a joint movement, which will be a protest march at Chandni Chowk on 12th February. Will be from Town Hall to Red Fort. Even after that the government warned that it would be released in other markets also. Mori Gate Pradhan Chandrabhushan Gupta, DHMA President Mukesh Sachdeva, senior Sadar Bazaar business leader Paramjeet Singh Pamma, and others participated in the protest march.
