Two major accidents late night in Odisha
Jagran correspondent, Angul. Two separate road accidents created chaos in Odisha late on Friday night. On one hand, a tanker filled with compressed biogas (CBG) overturned near Jarpada Chowk, while on the other hand, a massive fire broke out after the collision of two trucks in Jaleshwar area of Balasore district. In both the incidents the administration had to take precautionary measures.
The tanker suddenly went out of control and overturned.
The first incident took place near Jarpada Chowk in Angul district. The CBG tanker coming from Chhattisgarh towards Angul suddenly went out of control and overturned. Due to the tanker being filled with flammable and dangerous gas, fear of explosion spread panic in the area.
As a precaution, both the surrounding roads were immediately closed. Due to the fear of fire, power supply was disrupted in the local area for several hours.
As soon as the information was received, Jarpada police station reached the spot and cordoned off the area and secured it. After informing the fire department, two fire personnel have been deployed to monitor the vehicle.
CBG's technical team has also reached the spot and started investigating the tanker. The administration says that the situation is under control, but traffic will be restored only after it is completely safe.
Collision between coal laden truck and trailer
On the other hand, another accident took place in Jaleshwar area of Baleshwar district late on Friday night. There was a head-on collision between a coal-laden truck and a trailer truck near Basta bypass on National Highway No. 60 under Basta police station area. The collision was so severe that both the vehicles caught fire and flames started rising in no time.
On receiving information, Basta firemen reached the spot and after much effort brought the fire under control. Two people were seriously injured in the accident, who were immediately admitted to Basta Hospital. Police have registered the case and started investigation.
Continuous road accidents have once again raised questions on the safety arrangements and speed of heavy vehicles on the highways.
