The committees constituted in Jammu and Kashmir will submit reports to the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India.

Jagran correspondent, Srinagar. In order to prevent accidents due to collision with birds during air travel and to make air travel safe, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has constituted two committees under Rule 91, one each for the Valley and Jammu.

(Rule 91 prohibits activities near airports that attract birds, as these can lead to dangerous bird accidents with aircraft.)

Divisional Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir will take charge of the committee

According to an order issued in this regard by the Administration Department, the Jammu Committee is headed by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and includes Administrative Secretary, Civil Aviation Department, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu; Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation; Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu; Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu (Member); Member Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board (Member); and Director, Airport, Jammu.

Whereas the committee constituted for the Valley is headed by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and includes the Administrative Secretary, Civil Aviation Department; Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; Deputy Commissioner, Budgam; Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama; Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation; Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar-Budgam-Pulwama; Director, Urban Local Bodies, Srinagar; Member Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board and Director, Srinagar Airport (Secretary).

This task was assigned to the committee for safe air travel

As per the tasks assigned to the committee, it has to immediately identify and map all unauthorized slaughter houses, meat shops, dairies, piggery centres, garbage dumps and other prohibited facilities located within 10 km radius of Srinagar International Airport.

The committees are also entrusted with the responsibility to ensure strict enforcement measures including closure or relocation of non-compliant units in coordination with urban local bodies, municipal corporations, pollution control boards and law enforcement officials. The committees will institutionalize the compliance monitoring mechanism and submit reports to the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
