Uttarakhand: Fraud Of Rs 3.19 Crore By Former Bank Manager, Loan Taken In The Name Of The Dead Also

Dialogue Associate, Jagran, Gopeshwar: A big fraud of former manager Anurag Pundir in Uttarakhand Gramin Bank of Gopeshwar has come to light. The former manager grabbed a loan worth crores by opening fake accounts. Loans were also taken in the names of the deceased.

On the basis of fake documents, five people were made government teachers and employees and loans were also taken in their names. Due to continuous installments being deposited in fake accounts, the bank officials did not even suspect anything. After the matter was exposed, a case was registered against the accused. He is absconding after being suspended.

This is how this case unfolded

When a woman belonging to the self-help group of Tilfara village reached Gramin Bank to open her bank account, she came to know that she already had an account. There is also a loan of Rs 32 lakh going on. Upon suspicion, the branch manager investigated and found out that during his posting from 2022 to 2025, the then manager had got a fake loan of Rs 3 crore 19 lakh passed. This amount was transferred to the bank accounts of himself and his father in Dehradun.

Installment is being deposited on the loan

Investigating officer Senior Manager Sudhir Kumar said that the accused has created the limit in the names of five people who are not government employees. An amount of Rs 30 lakh each was withdrawn from his name also. A limit has also been created in the name of a police personnel, although his account was closed after his death. Installment is being deposited on this loan.

All three numbers of the accused are switched off.

An attempt was made to talk to the accused bank manager, but all three of his numbers were found switched off. Police Station Head Gopeshwar Naresh Rathore said that after the report was filed, investigation is being done at all points. The accused is currently absconding. It is being told that Anurag Pundir was posted in the Gopeshwar branch on 17 August 2022. Presently posted in Dehradun.
