State Bureau, Jagran, Dehradun: All India Congress Committee General Secretary and State Congress in-charge Kumari Selja said that the Modi government at the Center wants to destroy the soul of MNREGA. He said that this is not just an issue of changing the name, it is an attempt to eliminate rights.
Speaking to journalists at the hotel on Rajpur Road, Kumari Selja said that MNREGA was a legal right to demand-based employment, in which the government was bound to provide work. The new law makes it a supply-based scheme, where the availability of work will depend on the budget and parameters set by the central government, this parameter will take away the powers of the heads. This will end the form of decentralization of rights.
He said that in the original plan, about 90 percent of the labor cost was borne by the central government. In the new law, this ratio has been reduced to 60:40 for most of the states. 90:10 for North-Eastern and Himalayan states, this will put a huge financial burden on the states.
He said that this decision will be opposed in a planned manner in the state. According to the program, district-wise press conferences will be organized in the entire state on January 10, on January 11, there will be a dharna near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi or Baba Saheb, from January 12 to February 29, Chaupals will be organized at the Panchayat level in a phased manner.
