Ignoring the opposition of Congress, Trinamool and other opposition parties on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, the Election Commission on Monday released the final voter list of Tamil Nadu. During this period, the number of voters in the state has decreased by more than 74.07 lakh.

While the total number of voters in the state before the start of SIR was 6.41 crore, this number has come down to 5.67 crore in the final voter list released after SIR. However, after the draft list, the number of voters has increased by 23.30 lakh. The total number of voters in the draft list was 5.43 crore.

Final voter list of 10 states released

Whereas there has been a decrease of 68 lakh voters in Gujarat, 34 lakh in Madhya Pradesh, 31 lakh in Rajasthan, 24.99 lakh in Chhattisgarh and 8.97 lakh in Kerala. According to the Commission, this decrease in the number of voters is due to a large number of voters in the states being dead, transferred or absent.

Names of 27.53 lakh voters added in Tamil Nadu

According to the Commission, during the claim-objections period after the release of the draft list in Tamil Nadu, names of about 27.53 lakh voters have been added, while names of about 4.23 lakh voters have also been removed from it.

According to the Commission, if the name of any eligible voter is missing in the final list released, then the voter can apply to get his name added before the last date of filing nominations. During this time, the Commission has also made it clear that the work of SIR will be started in the remaining states also from the first week of April.
