State Bureau, Jagran, Dehradun. Due to strict and effective implementation of transparent policies on illegal mining in Uttarakhand, there has been a huge increase in the mining revenue of the state. In less than one and a half years since the mining system was made transparent and technology based, the state's annual mining revenue has increased four times from Rs 300 crore to Rs 1200 crore. Mining has been the main source of revenue for the government in the state. However, due to not paying much attention to this in the past, the expected revenue was not being generated from it.
About two years ago, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami adopted a modern system to curb illegal mining by linking mining with technology. For this, a new mining policy was implemented in the state in September 2024, under which the allocation of mining lots is being done through e-auction. This has increased transparency and effectively curbed irregularities. Under the new policy, satellite-based monitoring of mining activities, mining surveillance system for mining transportation, digital tracking and regular inspection have been implemented. Also, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the police and administration took strict action against illegal mining, due to which there has been a significant reduction in illegal activities.
Before September, 2024, the state used to get annual revenue of about Rs 300 crore from mining, which has now increased to more than Rs 1200 crore. Uttarakhand has got second place in the country for effective implementation of mining reforms. For this reason, the Central Government has approved special assistance of Rs 200 crore to Uttarakhand under the Special Assistance Scheme to States for capital investment in the financial year 2025-26.
‘Mining material is required for residential construction and development projects of the common people in the state, which is being made available in accordance with environmental standards and under a transparent system. The revenue generated from mining is being used in the operation of public welfare schemes and development works of the state.' -Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister, Uttarakhand.
