Villagers happy to get government water for the first time. Jagran
Samvad Sutra, Berinag. The long wait of eight decades and many generations for independence has finally ended. When government water reached Scheduled Caste dominated Tok Kolekh located in Berinag development block of Pithoragarh district after 59 years, there was no limit to the happiness of the villagers. It was like a dream come true for the villagers who had been struggling for water for so many years. The joy among the villagers was such that they garlanded the engineers of Water Institute Didihat who reached the village.
When the villagers of Koelekh arrived during the “People's Government at People's Door” camp organized in Raigarh, their enthusiasm was palpable. He told that till now his morning used to start with the struggle of arranging water, but now there has been a big and pleasant change in his life due to the availability of water stream at home. The villagers not only expressed their gratitude to the Jal Sansthan DDHaat for this Bhagirathi effort but also praised them.
Additional District Magistrate Yogendra Singh, present in the camp, praised the efforts of Executive Engineer Sandeep Chaturvedi for this. He said that quenching the thirst of a village after 80 years is a very inspiring task. The official said that the aim of the administration is to reach the ray of development to the last person sitting in remote areas and this work is a milestone in that direction.
Kalekh village is Tok village of Raigadsyari Gram Panchayat at a distance of nine km from Berinag tehsil headquarters. Kolek Tok is situated at a height. Six families reside in the village and used to fetch water from the well, half a kilometer away.
We had no hope that the government would ever provide us water. For the first time, government water has reached our village. We have faced a lot of trouble for water. The department has supplied water to the village. Now, as soon as you wake up in the morning, you will not have to go more than half a kilometer away to fetch water from a donkey.
