Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. Former BCCI President IAS Bindra died on Sunday night at the age of 84. From the construction of the cricket stadium in Mohali to the promotion of cricket in Punjab, Bindra has made an important contribution. He was also the President of Punjab Cricket Association i.e. PCA for 36 years (1978 to 2014).

It was under his chairmanship that the construction of the International Cricket Stadium started in Mohali which continued till 1993. This stadium was also inaugurated in the same year. Then in 2015, the PCA named the Mohali Stadium after him for his commendable contribution to cricket administration.

World Cup came to India because of Bindra

This ground hosted matches of all three formats of cricket. This ground also became witness to many historical matches. The semi-final matches of 1996 and 2011 World Cup were also played here. Bindra played an important role in hosting all this.

Bindra not only strengthened the PCA, but during his tenure as BCCI President, played an important role in making India a strong power in cricket administration, economically and globally. It was thanks to him that India got the opportunity to host the Cricket World Cup in 1987 and 1996.
