Jagran correspondent, Bettiah. Postal Assistant Umang of Head Post Office Bettiah has embezzled Rs 48 lakh 77 thousand 66 from 189 accounts of customers. Assistant Postal Superintendent of Western Subdivision, Awadhesh Kumar, has lodged an FIR against him in the city police station.
Postal Assistant Umang is originally a resident of Patilaar of Chautarwa police station area. At present he lives in a rented house near Suhagan Beauty Parlor, West Jha Tola of Banuchhapar. There are allegations against them of financial fraud and embezzlement of government and public funds from various post offices.
City Police Station Head Manoj Kumar Singh said that on the complaint of the Assistant Postal Superintendent, an FIR has been registered against the Postal Assistant. The case is being investigated.
In the registered FIR, Assistant Postal Superintendent Awadhesh Kumar has told the police that the accused Mr. Umang has embezzled Rs 35 lakh 51 thousand 428 from 60 different types of accounts of Lal Bazar Sub Post Office, Rs 12 lakh 61 thousand 202 from 78 different types of accounts of Naya Tola Sub Post Office and Rs 64 thousand 436 from 51 different types of accounts of Madhubani Sub Post Office.
Mr. Umang has transferred government and public money to his own account and the account of his wife Pooja Kumari. This act is fraud, breach of trust and embezzlement of government funds. Which is financial irregularity and a punishable offence. However, on pressure from the department, he has deposited Rs 48 lakh 77 thousand 66 in the departmental account.
