West Indies announced team for T20 World Cup
स्पोर्ट्स डेस्क, नई दिल्ली। Cricket West Indies has announced its team for the T20 World Cup-2026 to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from next month. Stormy all-rounder Jason Holder has returned to the 15-member team. Two-time champion West Indies will try to become champion for the third time by winning the title of this tournament to be played from February 7 to March 8.
Apart from Holder, former captain and stormy batsman Rovman Powell has also returned to the team. Romario Shepherd has also been called into the team, which has strengthened the team's batting attack. The command of the team is in the hands of Shay Hope.
25 year old Atishi batsman also got a place
The selectors have also included 25-year-old explosive batsman Quentin Sampson in the team. This player from Guyana recently made his debut in the T20 series played against Afghanistan. Only 35 runs came from his bat in three innings, but still the selectors have expressed confidence in him. The reason for this is their performance in the Caribbean Premier League.
This batsman had scored 241 runs in nine innings for Guyana Amazon Warriors at a strike rate of 151.57 and was third in the list of batsmen who scored the most runs for his team this season. On the basis of this form, he got a place in the team against Afghanistan.
Akil Hussain, Roston Chase, Sherfane Rutherford, who were out of the team against Afghanistan due to the SA20 series, have also returned to the team.

Shamar Joseph, who was constantly in and out of the team due to his injury in 2025, has also got a place in the team. Apart from him, the fast bowling attack will include Matthew Forde, Jaden Seales and Holder. The responsibility of the spin department is on Akil Hussain, Chase and Gudkesh Moti. Left-handed batsman Evin Lewis and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph have not got a place in the team.
West Indies have been placed in Group C along with England, Nepal, Italy and Scotland. Bangladesh was earlier in this group in place of Scotland, which has been excluded by the ICC. West Indies will play its first match against Scotland on February 7 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
