Government will make small towns safer for women
State Bureau, Jagran Lucknow. The state government is going to make 200 small towns with municipal councils even more safe for women. These cities are being brought under the ambit of Safe City Project. For the safety of women, CCTV cameras will be installed in these cities and pink toilets will be constructed.
Besides, street lights will be installed at all sensitive and important places. For this, a demand of Rs 50 crore is being made in the budget of the next financial year 2026-27. This budget will be increased later depending on the need.
To create a safe environment for women in the cities, the state government has made 17 municipal corporation cities safe cities in the first phase of the Smart City Scheme. Now in the second phase, there is a plan to make all 200 municipal councils safe cities. This has been agreed upon in the meeting of high officials.
For this, a proposal is being prepared and provision is being made in the new budget. After the budget is passed, the work of conducting the survey will start. In this, it will be ascertained at how many places CCTV cameras are to be installed and at how many places pink toilets will be built.
On the basis of this, proposals will be taken from the concerned municipal councils. Along with this, street lights and high mast lights will be installed as per requirement, which will provide lighting at all the major places in the city at night and enable safe movement of women. CCTV cameras will be connected to the command control room, so that monitoring can be done every moment.
