Jagran correspondent, Mathura. The action to remove the encroachment that has been going on for years on the land of Mathura Escape has now reached a decisive turn. On the three and a half kilometer long escape, 800 houses have been identified as being involved in encroachment. The Irrigation Department pasted notices on 100 more houses for the second day on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, notices were given to 70 houses. The continuous action has created panic.
There was a stir due to notices being pasted on houses.
The matter is related to that part of Mathura Escape, where many settlements including Ganeshra, Sanjay Nagar, Manoharpur, Keshavpur are situated within a radius of about three and a half kilometers. In this entire area, more than 800 houses are said to be built on Irrigation Department land, in which more than four thousand people live. This encroachment has been going on for the last 30 to 40 years. There are said to be more than 100 commercial shops here.
Escape's land has been occupied for 40 years
The High Court had given instructions to free Mathura Escape and other water bodies from encroachment in the year 2023, but these orders were not followed for a long time. Later, when a contempt petition was filed, officials from the Principal Secretary to the irrigation department and administration were made parties. After this the department came into action and now encroachments are being marked and notices are being issued. On Tuesday, four teams remained busy in different parts. First, cross marks were put on the houses in red ink, then notices were pasted.
made clear in the notice
It has been clarified in the notice that if the encroachment is not removed within the stipulated time, demolition action will be taken with the help of administration and police, the cost of which will also be recovered from the encroachers. According to officials, the number of notices will increase in the coming days. It is clear from the speed of action that this time the campaign to remove encroachment from Mathura Escape will not be limited to notices only.
In the first phase, the process of pasting notices on all the identified houses is being completed. After this, demolition action will be implemented with the cooperation of the administration. The land of Mathura Escape is registered in the records of the department and it will be made encroachment free as soon as possible.
