16 dependents of deceased university employees will get appointment on compassionate grounds

Jagran Correspondent, Jamtara: Vice Chancellor Prof. at Sido-Kanhu Murmu University on Thursday. A meeting of the Compassionate Committee was held under the chairmanship of Kunul Kandir. This meeting was held in the university after a gap of almost three years. Before this, the last meeting was held on 24 January 2023 under the then Vice Chancellor Prof. Sona Jharia happened during the tenure of Minz.

The meeting started with the welcome of Registrar Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Sharma. After this, the applications related to compassionate appointment of a total of 23 dependents of the deceased employees working in various constituent and affiliated colleges of the university were considered. Out of these 23 applications, the committee has given conditional approval to 16 applications. Some applications were rejected because they were submitted after the prescribed deadline, while in some cases the applications were rejected or kept pending because the minimum qualifications were not fulfilled or the required documents were not attached.

In the light of the State Government's resolution in the case of two successors (wife and son) of the same employee, the committee approved the claim of the wife, giving priority to her. Whereas, in another case, due to the age of the successor son being less than 18 years, the application of the employee's wife was accepted saying that the application could be made again when the son becomes eligible. Out of the 16 applications which have been given conditional approval, the applicants whose affidavit is more than six months old have been instructed to submit a fresh affidavit from the First Class Magistrate. Only after this the appointment letter will be issued. The meeting also discussed the case of an assistant professor who died of Covid infection during the probation period after his appointment. Since his service was not yet permanent and his wife was claiming compassionate appointment, the Committee decided to seek guidance from the State Government in this matter. Out of 16 approved cases, the committee decided to appoint four candidates in category IV and 12 candidates in category III on the basis of their qualifications. Dr. Basant Kumar Gupta, member of the Compassion Committee, suggested that in future, a letter should be sent to the principals of all the colleges before the meeting, so that the dependents of the employees who died suddenly can submit their claims on time. Meanwhile, Finance Officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha advised that the service of all the compassionately appointed employees should be confirmed only after the document verification is done from their respective college or school. DSW Dr. Jainendra Yadav, Dean Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Registrar Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Sinha, CCDD Dr. Abdus Sattar, Dr. Vijay Kumar etc. were present on the occasion. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kunul Kandir directed the university office that all the processes related to appointment should be completed immediately. He said that with these appointments the shortage of non-academic staff in the university will be removed to some extent.

Let us tell you that there are a total of 460 sanctioned posts of Class III in the university, in which currently only 56 employees are working, while all the remaining posts are vacant. After the establishment of the university, there has been no direct reinstatement till now and most of the currently working employees have been reinstated through compassionate appointment only.
