Accused Acquitted In Rape Case, Minor Said - Met For The First Time, Proved In Court That She Already Knew

The district court gave its verdict in a three year old case.

Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. The youth has got a big relief from the district court in the case of rape of a minor. In the complaint, the minor said that she had met him for the first time, while it was proved in the court that the youth and the minor already knew each other. In such a situation, the rape case could not be proved and the court acquitted Rohit Kumar, a resident of Ambala.

In this matter, Sector-36 police station of Chandigarh had registered a case three years ago under sections 376, 376(2)(n) of IPC, 506 and POCSO Act. The minor complained that Rohit took her to the hotel and raped her. Took objectionable pictures and later started blackmailing.

At the same time, lawyer Davinder Singh, who fought Rohit's case, said in the court that the accused has been implicated in this case. He did not know that the girl was a minor. Both of them knew each other for a long time. The relationship between the two was consensual.

The girl had said in the complaint that he met her for the first time on August 16, 2023 in Chandigarh and there he raped her in a hotel. Whereas it was proved in the court that both of them already knew each other. In such a situation, the court accepted that the girl was repeatedly changing her statements, hence her testimony was doubtful. In such a situation, the court acquitted the accused.
