The matter came to light in the investigation of Jammu district administration.
Jagran correspondent, Jammu. District Administration Jammu has issued a public notice taking a strict stand against arms license holders possessing more than two firearms. In the order issued by the District Magistrate and Licensing Authority, it has been said that under Section 3(2) of the Arms Act 1959 (Amended Arms Amendment Act 2019), no person can possess more than two fire arms.
The order also clarifies that as per the Arms Act, persons who had more than two weapons at the time the Amendment Act came into force will have to deposit the additional weapons as per law within the stipulated period.
During scrutiny of official records available by the district administration, it has come to light that some arms license holders in district Jammu are possessing more than two weapons.
A list of such license holders has been prepared, which is subject to verification and correction. The notice issued directs that all such arms license holders who possess more than two weapons, whether their names are included in the list or not, should produce their original arms licenses at the Judicial Section of the District Magistrate Office, Jammu, within ten days from the date of issue of the notice.
Its objective is to comply with the Arms Act and take necessary legal action. Further, the concerned license holders have been directed to ensure adherence to the limit prescribed in the law and to deposit the excess weapons with proper receipt under the Arms Act.
