Know the main points and gist of the news at a glance
Jagran correspondent, Khagaria. : Under the Khagaria-Kusheshwarsthan rail project, train track has been laid from Khagaria to Alauli and operations have been started. After a long time of demand and struggle of the local people, train service started on this section from 24 April 2025. However, there is dissatisfaction among the people of the area regarding the running of only one pair of passenger trains between Khagaria and Alauli and its timetable. Passengers of Farkiya area say that the present system is not practical for them.
Partial operation started after 29 years
The Khagaria-Kusheshwarsthan rail project was started by the then Railway Minister and Late Shahrbanni resident of Alauli block. It took place during the tenure of Ram Vilas Paswan (1 June 1996 to 19 March 1998). In this total 42 kilometer long project, after almost 29 years, train operation has become possible on the 18.542 kilometer railway section between Khagaria to Alauli.
just a pair of carriages
At present only one pair of passenger trains is running between Alauli and Khagaria. The arrival and departure time of passenger train number 55523 running between Saharsa and Samastipur at Alauli station is 1:50 pm. At the same time, the arrival time of train number 55524 from Samastipur to Saharsa is scheduled at 11:00 am and departure time is 11:14 am. Bishanpur and Kamathan are two intermediate stations on this railway section. Local people say that the timing of arrival and departure of trains has been fixed in such a way that passengers are not getting proper benefit from it.
On February 21, Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Rampur-Chharrapatti, who was waiting for the train at Alauli station, told that he was taking his wife to Patna for treatment. If there was a train between six and seven in the morning, they could have returned after treatment in the same day. Similarly, railway passenger Girish Rajak told that he too is going to Khagaria for the treatment of his wife, but he will have to take auto to return. Commuters say that markets along with government and non-government offices also open after 10 am. In such a situation, departure time between 7 to 8 am and return time between 5 to 6 pm would be more suitable.
Demand for long distance trains
Local people also say that the commencement of direct operation of long distance trains from Alauli will provide convenience to the passengers of Alauli block as well as the border areas of Darbhanga and Saharsa districts. He believes that at present only symbolic operations are being carried out so that the maintenance of the railway tracks continues.
The timetable is being reviewed
DRM of Samastipur division Jyoti Prakash Mishra said that the operating timing of trains on Alauli-Khagaria railway section is being reviewed. Necessary decisions will be taken keeping in mind the facilities of the passengers. Local people hope that the railway administration will seriously consider their demands and make this railway service really useful by changing the timetable.
