Communication Assistant, Ratni Faridpur (Jehanabad). After the hoisting of the national flag on the occasion of Republic Day, there was a huge commotion over the national sweet Jalebi. There was a lot of lathi-charge and stone pelting, in which four people were injured and three vehicles were damaged. The chief and his supporters who had come to distribute Jalebi had to save their lives by hiding in the Panchayat Government building. The police came and took him safely home.
This matter is of Gonwan Panchayat under Sadar block. There was a flag hoisting program on 26 January in the Panchayat Government Building complex of Gonwan village. Panchayat chief Amarnath Singh had reached the venue in four vehicles with his supporters for the flag hoisting.
After the flag hoisting, Jalebi started being distributed as per tradition. The head had come with five kilos of Jalebi, due to the crowd the quantity got reduced, the children standing in the queue started making noise. On this, the chief and his supporters lost their temper and beat the children with sticks, due to which the villagers became furious and attacked the chief's supporters.
Fighting and stone pelting started from both sides, in which one villager and three supporters were injured. Seeing the villagers being overwhelmed, the chief and his supporters ran away from the field and took shelter in the Panchayat government building. The gate was closed from inside and the police was immediately informed.
When the chief was not found, the angry villagers damaged three of his vehicles by hitting them with sticks. Ramakant Paswan, resident of Gonawan village, who was injured in the incident, told that the chief was distributing jalebi. When the jalebi was less, the children started making noise, then the head and his son started beating with sticks.
He had come to intervene, during which his hand was broken due to the blow of the stick and there were injuries at many places on his body. He was admitted to Sadar Hospital Jehanabad in injured condition. Chief Amarnath Singh said that the children were running away with Jalebi. This incident happened while trying to stop and intervene. He said that no one was intentionally assaulted. Three of his supporters are also injured.
Police Station Head Shyamakant Pandey said that information about the incident has been received. The application has been received from the head of the Panchayat. The matter is being investigated and after investigation an FIR will be registered and legal action will be taken. After the incident, the police are keeping an eye on the village, so that no untoward situation arises.
