Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. After the Special Intensive Review (SIR) campaign, the Election Commission has given approval to expand the voting arrangements in the district and build 150 new booths and 10 new polling centres. This will provide better voting facilities to voters in the district and will help in reducing congestion. After the decision of the Commission, now the number of booths in the district has increased from 3620 to 3770, while the polling stations have increased from 1413 to 1423.

This decision was taken after adding names of new voters during the revision of voter list during SIR and assessing the population density. The Election Commission's standard is to make one booth for approximately 1200 voters, so that the voting process remains smooth and transparent. At the same time, polling stations are decided on the basis of availability, security and facilities of the venue.

Among the 10 assembly constituencies of the district, maximum 47 new booths have been built in Bilhaur (reserved) assembly constituency. After this, 27 new booths have been added in Maharajpur. Four new polling stations with 20 new booths have been created in Cantt. 18 and 20 new booths have been built in Bithoor and Kalyanpur assembly constituencies, and two new polling stations each have also been added in these two areas. There has been no change in the number of booths in Govind Nagar, Sisamau and Aryanagar, while limited increase has been recorded in Kidwai Nagar.

10 new polling stations have been expanded in Ghatampur (reserved) with 150 new booths. No new polling booth has been made in Govind Nagar, Sisamau, Arya Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Cantt and Ghatampur assembly constituencies of the district, whereas no new booth has been made in Govind Nagar Sisamau and Kidwai Nagar assembly constituencies.

What are the benefits to voters?

With the construction of new booths, the queues at polling stations will be shorter, senior citizens, disabled people and women will be provided facilities and there will also be a possibility of increase in voting percentage. Besides, security for the administration, EVM management and preparations for counting will also be more organized.
