Ambala: The cruel picture of old age...
Jagran correspondent, Ambala city. 72 year old Bebe Darshana lying on the cot. Cockroaches and rats roaming in the room and on the bed. Feces stuck in the nails of hands and feet. Breathtaking smell as soon as you step into the house. This scene inside a rented room in a narrow and dark lane of Kajiwada locality is a picture of the breakdown of humanity in Ward No. 6, in the heart of the city.
This is the same Bebe Darshana, who once fed her two sons and a daughter in her lap. Today the same woman is unable to get up from the cot and is forced to live at the mercy of others.
Age, weakness and illness broke him to such an extent that leave alone walking, it was no longer possible to even sit up. The situation was so dire that she was forced to urinate on the bed for months. He did not even take a bath for about six months.
Vande Mataram Sanstha again became helpful
This silent pain became public around 11 am on Saturday morning. The team of Vande Mataram team under the leadership of founder Bharat Singh rescued the elderly man. Outpost number four Jaikumar and ward number six councilor Archana Chhibbad were also present on the occasion.
After much effort and persuasion, Babe Darshana could be taken for treatment in an ambulance. He has been admitted to Manukhta's Seva Sabse Seva Hospital, Ludhiana, where already 800 of these abandoned elderly, youth, children and women are surviving with the help of treatment.
Was living on pension
7-8 years ago, Bebe Darshana, who was living in Hashmi Mohalla, had now started living in a rented room in Kajiwada. Till three-four years ago, she herself used to cook food in her room by lighting a fire with wood and cow dung cakes. Later illness and weakness made him a prisoner of his bed. The pension used to come into his account and an acquaintance or neighbor would get it withdrawn from the bank and give it. His livelihood was dependent on that.
Daughter and son-in-law murdered
The family history is also full of pain. It is said that his daughter and son-in-law have been murdered. One son has died after falling into a drain due to alcohol addiction, while the other is in jail in a murder case. Bebe Darshana herself told that one of her sons had once stabbed someone. When she was asked who was hers now, she simply said – Now there is no one behind me.
Neighbors used to give food
Neighbors would give food and ask for medicine. Everyone was uncomfortable with cleaning, bathing and routine care. Out of compulsion, earlier she used to defecate in containers, which someone would dump into the drain for money. The condition worsened with time. Due to this reason the infection had spread in his body.
Bebe Darshana was not ready to go for treatment. Wasn't able to trust anyone. She recognized ward councilor Archana Chhibbad and considered her her daughter. When she agreed after a lot of convincing, she said while leaving – I will come, keep my money safely.
Not only this, he also got the lock of his rented room installed by the councillor. He had earlier given the old money to different people. Some people kept returning them, while some considered them unclaimed and gave money away.
