Couple burnt to death in protest against encroachment removal action in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh; Woman serious (symbolic picture)
JNN, Dewas. Momentary anger and excitement can even become life threatening. One such case has come to light in Satwas of Dewas district in Madhya Pradesh. The couple, who were protesting against the demolition of their house on the grounds of encroachment, warned of self-immolation. The husband lit the match.
Another woman tried to hand over a bottle filled with petrol and this sparked the fire. According to doctors, wife Jayshree suffered 65 percent burns and husband Santosh suffered 45 percent burns. Both are undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Indore. Jayshree's respiratory tract is swollen, she has been put on ventilator.
Actually, the drain of the locality was blocked due to the house under construction, on the complaint of which the team led by Tehsildar Arvind Diwakar and City Council CMO Chunnilal Junwal had arrived on Wednesday evening to take action, when this incident happened. Collector Rituraj Singh has suspended both the officers.
At the same time, the Brahmin community has submitted a memorandum to the Collector demanding a court inquiry into the incident and filing an FIR against Tehsildar Diwakar and removing him from service. There is a demand to demolish the encroachment done by the Soni family with bulldozers.
FIR against Soni couple for firing
In a related incident, action has also been taken regarding the aerial fire that took place late on Wednesday evening. Police have registered a case against Narayan Soni and his wife Rani Soni under sections of assault, abuse, intimidation and aerial firing.
After the firing, the woman herself went to the police station and handed over the gun to the police. Claimed that he had to fire in self-defense. Police force remained deployed at the spot for the second day also.
