Jagran correspondent, Karanda (Ghazipur). In the encounter between the police and animal smugglers in the Karanda Tal area of the area on Wednesday morning, a smuggler was injured by a bullet, while one of his associates escaped taking advantage of the darkness.
Police recovered 15 cattle from the spot and sent the injured smuggler to the hospital for treatment. Several criminal cases are said to have been registered against the arrested smuggler in the past also.
Karanda police station incharge Ashok Gupta was checking vehicles near Chochakpur petrol pump in the morning. Meanwhile, a suspicious pickup vehicle was seen coming from Sarauli. When the police signaled to stop, the driver started driving the vehicle rapidly towards Zamaniya.
Sensing the situation, the police station chief started the chase and informed the Badsara post in-charge. Badsara outpost police became active on information and laid siege and the smugglers started running towards Karanda Tal with the pickup. Seeing himself surrounded, a smuggler started firing at the police.
The policemen retaliated in self-defense, in which Rohan Yadav, a resident of Devchandpur village of Rampur Manjha police station area, got injured by the bullet. One of his associates managed to escape from the spot. On searching the injured smuggler, a pistol, cartridges and mobile phone were recovered from him.
Police also took safe custody of 15 cattle from the pickup. According to the police, five cases are already registered against Rohan Yadav. The police is raiding in search of the absconding smuggler.
