ICC Vice President leaves for Lahore
PTI, Karachi. International Cricket Council (ICC) vice-chairman Imran Khawaja has left for Lahore to meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials amid efforts to resolve the impasse over Pakistan's proposed boycott of the T20 World Cup match against India. Khawaja, who represents Singapore at the ICC, is an influential figure in the global governing body and has voting rights on the board as an Associate Member Director.
According to a source close to the PCB, Khawaja has been named by the ICC Board as the arbitrator on this controversial topic. Khawaja has been in talks with Mohsin Naqvi for some time now and he is arriving in Lahore on Sunday to talk to PCB chief and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam before a virtual meeting in the evening.
BCB President Aminul is in Lahore
Aminul is already in Lahore and met Naqvi on Sunday. Aminul is expected to be a part of the discussions aimed at convincing Pakistan to reconsider its decision of not playing against India in Colombo on February 15.
Situation changed due to Sri Lanka Cricket Board
Naqvi has not commented much on the government's instructions to boycott the India match, but the situation is known to have changed after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sent an email to the PCB. In this email they have been urged to end the boycott. ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta has also gone to Colombo to meet SLC President Shammi Silva. Sanjog had sent an email to Naqvi asking him to play a match against India in the World Cup.
