Jagran correspondent, Raxaul (Pooch). A situation of chaos arose on Sunday due to the organizing committee not making proper arrangements for crowd management during the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha Mahayagya going on in the airport premises.
As soon as the storyteller Aniruddhacharya reached the venue of the story, the crowd of devotees went out of control and thousands of people started trying to enter the pandal simultaneously.
During this, the railing of the main gate broke. Many devotees suffered injuries in the chaos that broke out under the pressure of the crowd. Two women fell unconscious, while several children were separated from their families. There was an atmosphere of chaos at the Katha site for some time. To control the situation, the police had to drive back the crowd by lathi charge.
Devotees expressed displeasure over VIP passes and separate arrangements made by the organizing committee. He said that when the story is public and donations have been collected from markets and villages, then why VIP arrangements were made.
Ordinary devotees are facing problems due to seating of those who pay more amount at a separate place. The devotees also accused the private security guards deployed by the organizing committee of misbehavior.
Devotees say that Katha is for everyone, yet VIP people are being given priority, due to which the situation is worsening again and again. He warned that if the organizing committee and administration did not learn a lesson, a major accident could occur.
In this regard, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Manish Anand said that no lathicharge was done, only the crowd was controlled.
Police force has been deployed at the spot and additional force will also be deployed if required. At the same time, Sub-Divisional Officer Manish Kumar said that there was some problem due to large crowd. The organizing committee has been instructed to make arrangements overnight.
An attempt was made to contact organizing committee chairperson Shikha Das, but she did not receive the call. It is noteworthy that due to the absence of any inquiry counter or help desk for lost children at the Katha site, the devotees had to face a lot of trouble.
