Gumla Police Arrested PLFI Maoist Sameer Tirkey, Had Escaped From Jail 1 Year Ago

Communication partner, Gumla. Gumla police, on the basis of secret information, arrested PLFI (People's Liberation Front of India) Maoist Sameer Tirkey, who was absconding for a year, late last Saturday night.

It was told that PLFI Maoist Sameer Tirkey, who was absconding by dodging the police and security agencies for almost a year, was finally caught by the Gumla police.

He was arrested late Saturday night from his native village Vrinda in Gumla block of Gumla district. This action was led by police inspector cum station in-charge Mahendra Karmali.

According to sources, Sameer Tirkey had escaped from Birsa Munda Central Jail located in Ranchi-Hotwar on the night of 28 February 2025. Later, investigation of CCTV footage revealed that he had managed to escape from the main gate by dodging the three-layer security system of the jail. After which there was a stir in the jail administration.

An FIR was also lodged in this regard at Khelgaon police station. The arrest of Sameer Tirkey had remained a big challenge for the police since his absconding. Gumla Police was continuously keeping an eye on his activities.

On the basis of secret information and continuous surveillance, the police team raided his native village Vrinda and arrested him. After his arrest, he was sent to Ranchi for further legal process under tight security. It is said that Sameer Tirkey is a resident of Bhandra Toli of Vrinda village of Gumla district.

In the year 2013, he was arrested in a case of kidnapping and murder and in the year 2022, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Earlier he was associated with the Maoist organization Pahadi Cheetah, later he became an active member of PLFI.
