Plan was made to make Rajghat and Shanti Van of Ring Road signal free.

VK Shukla, New Delhi. The Delhi government has planned to make Rajghat and Shanti Van of Ring Road, which are among the busiest intersections of the city, signal free. No flyover is going to be built for this, rather under the U-turn scheme, both the intersections will be made signal free. Since both these intersections come under the Samadhi Sthal area and there is more VIP movement here.

Therefore, arrangements will be made at these intersections in such a way that if needed, red beacons can also be switched on at the intersections. For this, installation of scissor barrier or cement jersey barrier is being considered. However, the Public Works Department has issued a tender for this. Under which an amount of approximately Rs 50 lakh will be spent on the entire scheme. A senior official of Delhi government has said that work on this scheme will be started soon and people will be provided relief from the jam. Sources say that the traffic police has proposed to install scissor barriers at these intersections so that they can be easily removed if needed. These are steel barriers and can be easily removed and traffic can be started through red lights at intersections.

But in the tender issued by the Public Works Department, there is talk of Jersey barrier. In which cemented barriers are installed and JCB is required to remove them. Experts believe that if the intersections are closed with jersey barriers, then JCBs will have to be parked there for 15-20 days every month.

How will traffic be signal free?

Under the plan, the red beacons of Rajghat and Shanti Van will be switched off. Vehicles will be able to move from AIP Estate towards Hanuman Temple on Ring Road without any restriction. U-turns will be given at a distance of 100 meters on the ring road on both sides of both the intersections. Traffic coming from Delhi Gate at Rajghat intersection and going towards Sarai Kale Khan on Ring Road will be given a U-turn 100 meters ahead towards Shanti Van.

Similarly, coming from Shanti Van and going towards Delhi Gate, the traffic will pass by giving a U-turn towards IP Estate 100 meters ahead of Rajghat intersection. With this, the traffic at the intersection will be single-free. Similarly, coming from Jama Masjid at Shanti Van intersection and going towards Rajghat at red light, a U-turn will be given 100 meters ahead of the intersection towards Hanuman Temple. People will be able to pass through U-turn towards Rajghat. To go to Jama Masjid from Yamunapar side, a U-turn will be given 100 meters ahead from Shanti Van intersection towards Rajghat and people will be able to pass towards Jama Masjid. Atul Ranjit Kumar, National General Secretary of Guru Hanuman Society of India, who is making efforts to make these intersections signal free by giving them U-turns, said that maximum results are being achieved with nominal investment under the U-turn system. Rajghat and Shanti Van located on Mudrika Marg are also being made signal and jam free. The public will get major benefits like environment, health and road safety etc. from this scheme. Pollution will also improve. Fuel will be saved from getting wasted.
