Sitarist Anushka Shankar shared a broken picture of her sitar on Instagram.
Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Pandit Ravi Shankar's daughter and renowned sitar player Anushka Shankar has accused Air India of causing serious damage to her sitar. Posting a video on Instagram, she said that her sitar was seriously damaged in the Air India flight. In the video, a long and deep crack is clearly visible in the lower round part of the sitar. Anushka said that this has happened with her sitar for the first time in the last one and a half decade.
Wrote in an emotional tone expressing pain
Expressing his pain, he wrote in an emotional tone that the airline of the country from which this music belongs, did this. Tagging Air India, he wrote, 'I am shocked and deeply pained to see this condition of my sitar. This is also sad because I had chosen Air India after a long time, yet it seems that even Indian musical instruments are not safe with them.
Air India expressed regret
On this post of Anushka, Air India issued a statement on Thursday saying that we are concerned about this incident that happened with our guest. We understand the cultural and personal significance of the instrument and deeply regret the inconvenience caused. A complete investigation including CCTV footage of Delhi Airport has been started. Many agents and stakeholders are involved in this process, so the exact cause of the damage is not yet known.
Such incidents have happened before also
This is not the first incident. In 2010, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's sarod was damaged in Air India. Similarly, in 2012, Ustad Ashish Khan's sarod broke in an Indigo flight. In the year 2019, Pandit Shubhendra Rao's sitar was damaged in the Delhi-New York Air India flight.
