Lifestyle Desk, New Delhi. Cancer is such a disease whose mere name creates fear in the mind. But there is a need not to be afraid of cancer, but to recognize it in time. Often the early signs of cancer are so common that we dismiss them as everyday fatigue, change in weather or simple infection.
But this mistake becomes a serious problem later. The sooner the early signs of cancer are identified, the greater the chances of successful treatment. Therefore, on the occasion of this World Cancer Day, let us know what are the initial symptoms of this disease.
If you suddenly lose 4-5 kg of weight without any diet or exercise, then it is not a matter of happiness but a matter of concern. Sudden weight loss can be an important symptom in pancreas, stomach or lung cancer. When the body fights cancer cells, it spends its energy very fast, which leads to weight loss.
It is normal to feel tired after work, but if you feel extremely lethargic even after getting plenty of sleep and rest, it could be a sign of cancer. In blood cancer or colon cancer, there is weakness and fatigue in the body due to internal bleeding.
Skin and body changes
The appearance of a new mole on the skin or a change in the color and shape of an old mole can be a sign of skin cancer. Apart from this, any painless lump felt in any part of the body, especially in the breast in women, is the most dangerous. Often people ignore the lump due to lack of pain, whereas cancer lumps do not cause pain in the initial stages.
Digestion and stomach related problems
People often mistake persistent constipation, diarrhea, or change in stool color as eating disorders. But if these problems persist for weeks or there is blood in the stool, it could be a symptom of colon cancer. Similarly, persistent difficulty in swallowing food may indicate cancer of the throat or esophagus.
persistent cough and hoarseness of voice
If your cough persists for more than 3-4 weeks and is not cured by medicines, it may be a sign of lung cancer. Sudden loss of voice or heaviness can also be a warning sign of throat cancer, which people often mistake as 'sore throat'.
Why is timely investigation important?
The success rate of treatment in the first stage of cancer is very high. But when we ignore the symptoms, the disease spreads to other organs, making treatment difficult.
