State Bureau, Ranchi. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has demanded action from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging illegal trade of sand in the state.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, Marandi said that there is a need for a widespread movement against the plundering and illegal trade of sand taking place in the state. He said that illegal sand trade in the state has taken the form of a serious social and economic crisis.

The prices of sand are skyrocketing due to illegal mining and black marketing. The nature of rivers is changing and land erosion is increasing. The price of sand is increasing manifold as soon as we travel a few kilometers from the rivers.

The profits are going into the pockets of middlemen, mafia, DC-SP. The centralized recovery from illegal stone trade was fifty to sixty percent, now it has further increased to more than seventy-five percent.
