Jagran correspondent, Etawah. Through friendship on Facebook, a cyber thug defrauded a property dealer of Rs 10.5 lakh by luring him of investing in land. By the time the victim realized the fraud, the accused blocked the number. Based on the complaint of the victim, cyber police have registered a case and started investigation.
Ganesh Tripathi, a resident of Sunvarsa of Bakewar area, told that he works in property dealing. Around the evening of 26 November 2025, a message came on his Facebook messenger from a woman named Darshini Swami. On checking the profile, she declared herself to be a resident of Bangalore and an IT manager in a company. Normal conversation continued on messenger for a few days, after which on December 1, he shared his WhatsApp number and the conversation progressed from there.
During WhatsApp chat, the woman told that she wants to leave her job and start a property business in Bangalore and good profits can be earned by partnering in this work. Land is available at cheap prices and prices will increase in future when government schemes come.
Following his advice, Ganesh Tripathi agreed to invest. After this, from January 7, the woman started asking for money in the name of giving advance for the property. Initially the victim transferred the amount in installments on different UPI IDs. Then citing stamp and other expenses, Rs 3 lakh was deposited in a bank account through RTGS.
Between January 7 and January 29, a total of Rs 10 lakh 50 thousand was transferred to different accounts and IDs several times. Later the woman asked for money saying that some other person had given more advance to the party selling the land and additional amount was needed to save the deal.
After January 30, the woman suddenly blocked his number on WhatsApp. Then Ganesh Tripathi realized that he had become a victim of cyber fraud. After this, he reached the cyber police station and reported the entire incident. Cyber police have registered a case based on the complaint of the victim.
